Special THANKS to our SPONSOR

Quite honestly, if it hadn't been for the support of our generous sponsor the Verizon Foundation this issue of COLUMBIAKids wouldn't be here. A tremendous THANKS goes out to them for believing in the project and for making the premiere issue of COLUMBIAKids possible!

The COLUMBIAKids Team

Christina DuBois, Managing Editor of COLUMBIA Magazine, knew she wanted to be an editor from the moment this picture was taken. Okay, so maybe not exactly then, but she does a heck of a job as an editor now. To top it all off, she lives on an island and rides a Vespa to work!

Kevin Hanken is a true-blue behind-the-scenes web guy who makes all of our web sites work. He also developed and maintains the Washington Women's History Consortium web site which is h-u-g-e.

Sharon Hultman, our spunky Web Designer, lends her expertise to both the main Washington State Historical Society web site and COLUMBIAKids. Although she's given up her cowgirl ways, she still loves watching rodeos and old Dale Evans movies.

Stephanie Lile, Head of Education and COLUMBIAKids Managing Editor, is a little bit taller now, but she still likes cushy pillows and paisley pants! She's the instigator of COLUMBIAKids and is particularly excited about the launch of this first issue so that she can get back to her favorite hobby-sleeping!

Believe it or not, Maria Pascualy, Associate Editor of COLUMBIA Magazine and exhibit specialist extraordinare, still has that doll. She brought it with her to Washington all the way from her childhood home in Fresno, Tolima (Colombia). Now there's a real COLUMBIAKid!

Gwen Perkins, School Programs Specialist and educational web content wiz, loves quirky facts and figures. That's why she's the perfect editor for Homework Helper. You can ask her almost anything, except whether she believes in Sasquatch!

And MORE Special THANKS to...

The WebKey Team: Cory Crocker, Dana Arnim, James Hart, Karen Chalupnik, and Randy Steiger. A big thanks to the wonderful WebKey team for their creativity, time, and programming expertise in the creation of the COLUMBIAKids website.

Dr. Jonathan Elias, director of the Akhmim Mummy Studies Consortium, who graciously assisted with this issue's "Collections Conundrum." He is an Egyptologist based in Pennsylvania.

Laurie Junkins, guest poetry editor, who helped us select the playful poem "Rain Talk" for Word Play. Laurie lives in New Jersey, but will soon be a graduate of the Whidbey Writer's Workshop in poetry. Her poems have appeared in Literary Moma, Apple Valley Review, Nimrod, and Poet Lore.

David Nicandri, director of the Washington State Historical Society, who said "yes" to the COLUMBIAKids idea.
